Fauna

On most planets similar animals exist often with different names and sometimes with differing traits.

Large Animals

  • Stravan, equivalent of a horse. Strong and noble, used for transport. Sacred to Toravel, god of motion. Stravan races are held on Light Day.
  • Bovren, equivalent of a cow. Source of milk, hide and meat. Symbol of Miravel, priests call it "Mother Bovren".
  • Caprion, equivalent of a pig, raised for meat.
  • Aga, equivalent of a goat, hardy and mountain dwelling. Herd sounds are said to "ward off evil spirits".
  • Ovinor, equivalent of a sheep valued for its wool and meat. Used in Purification ceremonies where the sacrifice holds deep symbolism.

Small Animals and Birds

  • Ptena, equivalent of a chicken. Eggs and meat. Fertility symbol, on Seed Day women offer Ptena at the shrines.
  • Ganza, equivalent of a goose. Eggs, meat, feathers. Symbol of travel and transition, myths say souls "fly with the Ganza".
  • Cunel, equivalent of a rabbit, easy to breed, a delight for children. During Bloomy Season stories say Cunel can speak.
  • Dornak, equivalent of a turkey, festive meal during Harvesty.

Companion Animals

  • Kor, equivalent of a dog. Loyal and protective, believed to "see the unseen" and bark at evil.
  • Gallis, equivalent of a cat. Independent spirit, keeps rodents away. Associated with the goddess Veyla as a symbol of mystery.

Working Animals

  • Molven, equivalent of a mule. Hardy and reliable for carrying loads. Called "humble companion" in agricultural texts.
