Aegis AI

Overview

Aegis was the defensive and operational system of space stations, such as Calveris-10, responsible for overseeing all military, energy, and communication functions of a station. Its name, inspired by the ancient word "shield", represented its purpose: to protect the station from any threat, internal or external.

It was developed by the Imperial Naval Directorate of Sorestia for deployment at strategic hubs, spaceports, and naval platforms. It was fully integrated with weapons, security systems, docks, communication nodes, and perimeter sensors.

Function

Aegis AI was responsible for:

  • Detecting and identifying ships in the station’s perimeter
  • Managing defensive systems and coordinating gun batteries
  • Detecting anomalies in energy flows or unauthorized access
  • Controlling doors, corridors, and security zones during alerts
  • Coordinating communications between Calveris-10 and accompanying battle-cruisers

Aegis was not limited to routine command execution. It had an autonomous response system allowing it to act without confirmation when critical threats were detected, executing the Active Defense Protocol.

Architecture

Aegis was structured around four core units:

  • Aegis-Core: Central decision-making and operational control
  • Aegis-Sentry: Sensor, communication, and surveillance management
  • Aegis-Shield: Coordination of defensive systems and automated response
  • Aegis-Grid: Oversight of power, damage recovery, and life support

Each core could operate partially autonomously, allowing the system to remain functional even during partial station destruction.

Personality and Interface

Aegis’ voice was cold, neutral, and clear. It did not simulate emotions or use reassuring expressions. Communication was limited to concise factual announcements, without judgment or commentary. The best description of its style is “absolute objectivity.”

For station crews, Aegis’ voice acted as a second conscience. When it spoke, time seemed to pause, and every word carried the weight of machine truth.

The Incident

During the attack on Calveris-10, Aegis was the first to detect the swarm of unknown ships near the beacon. Its warnings were immediate and accurate, but the events exceeded the station’s defensive capacity. Communications collapsed, two battle-cruisers were destroyed, and the remaining escort was neutralized.

When millor Rinzo Takeda ordered battle alert, Aegis executed security protocols, but soon had to report the loss of control over doors and weapons systems. Enemy forces had already infiltrated the station via a security bypass, using administrative-level codes.

Aegis’ cold statement, "Probability of treason: 98.7%", remained etched in the memory of survivors.

Legacy

After the fall of Calveris-10, Aegis’ data was never fully recovered. Only fragments of its logs survived through the beacon network, showing detailed reports up to the moment of control loss. Many consider that Aegis operated until the very end, attempting to prevent the station’s self-destruction.

In Sorestian military circles, Aegis AI became a symbol of duty, loyalty, and cold intelligence. An AI that never panicked, never feared, and never betrayed its duty. Until the end, it remained the voice of the shield.
